Monica Daniely Green is a multi-faceted powerhouse. As a well-respected entrepreneur, business woman and philanthropist, she proudly wears almost as many “hats” as the unique hair designs showcased in her premier natural black hair care salon, So Curly, So Kinky, So Straight, in South Euclid, Ohio. In addition to being a salon owner, Monica is a professional speaker, development trainer, business and beauty consultant, and adjunct professor at Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland. She is also the author of “Natural Hair Love Train – The Book”.
Monica, who was named one of Heineken’s “25 Influential African American Women” in 2013, is a native Clevelander. Her love and passion for the hair care industry is truly a natural extension of the rich legacy left by family members who also happened to “do hair”, including an aunt, cousins, and even an uncle who sold a hair care product line. So, it’s no surprise that Monica became infatuated with hair styling at the early age.
An unexpected move to Chicago by her family led Monica to further pursue her interest in hair care. The turning point came when she attended Davea Pivot Point Beauty School one of the best in the nation. She returned to Cleveland and completed her cosmetology license at Mark Pels Beauty Academy. By the age of 23, Monica was a successful salon owner, with a large number of clients, including R&B singer, Eddie Levert, as well as the National Basketball Association (All-Star Weekend). Monica was also the mastermind behind the Hair Oscars television show, which was designed to highlight local talent within the beauty industry.
Monica also gained corporate experience along the way. Her unique opportunity to serve as Chief Operating Officer for the 30,000 plus Word Church in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, as well as past corporate sales positions with Pfizer, Inc. and AdvanStar Communications, provided her with a solid foundation for understanding products, services, strategies and tools needed to ensure a successful business enterprise. That experience has translated into consulting opportunities inside and outside the beauty industry, including serving as a consultant with The Summit Group, where she works with the L’Oreal Group providing state-of-the-art training to salon owners to help build and solidify the operations of their businesses, as well as teach them how to create jobs, wealth and a legacy for themselves and their families.
Monica also participates in a number of philanthropic activities throughout the year, such as her Business Shareholders Program where she invites beauty professionals to become business partners, sharing in roles, responsibilities, and profits. In addition, as part of the 2014 Women’s Empowerment Project, Monica is hosting two U.S. Virgin Islands Cosmetology apprentices in a 30-month professional development training program at So Curly, So Kinky, So Straight Hair Salon. Monica is also the founder of the “Happy to Be Nappy” family picnic, and the presenting sponsor of the annual Cleveland Natural Hair Care & Fitness Expo. In addition, Monica speaks at a number of international beauty shows each year.
Monica obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Central State University and her Master’s of Business Administration degree from Myers University. She resides in Cleveland with her husband, Darryl Green and beautiful daughter, Alexandria.
